PhD in International Public Law by the UNED (Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia), with the doctoral thesis on “The concept of the failed statte in subsaharan Africa and its international remedy”. Master in Law by the Universidad Alcalá de Henares. Bachelor in Law.

Juan Álvarez Cobelas has been working in the areas of collective security, peace keeping operations and privatization of violence (mercenaries).

Research interests: EU and AU peace and security architecture, informal economy, African constitutionalism, International Criminal Court, juridical relativism
